More than 25 years ago, Ben Blom sold his motorbike and bought his first woodwork machines. What started as a hobby has now grown into a family business proud of its stature where Ben and his dedicated staff have been meticulously handcrafting solid wood furniture. These family heirlooms will be treasured by generations to come as the designs are classic and timeless.
Handcrafted furniture is an investment needing little care but with a lasting quality that appreciates in value. Our timber comes mainly from the forests of the Garden Route and Keiskammahoek. We use mostly indigenous South African woods like Yellowwood, Blackwood, Ironwood, Cape Beech and African Rose although American Oak and Oregon Pine are also sought after.
Quality wood, design, workmanship and finish are our hallmark. Each piece is individually made with the utmost care and attention to detail, hand-assembled and smoothly finished by hand; no mass production here.
Our main line is traditional Cape Dutch furniture. These are classic and elegant pieces that have proved their popularity over the years.
We also manufacture contemporary pieces including TV cabinets, desks, bookcases and many more.
We also specialise in custom designs tailor-made to our client’s individual requirements.
Some of our furniture is exported to the UK, America, Canada and Australia. Some of our furniture is also stocked at Bira Crafts (Main Coastal Rd East London - Port Alfred).
Our pieces are for the person who has an old-fashioned sense of fine woods, superlative workmanship, an appreciation of quality and who wants to own beautiful furniture.
Eagle Hout also has a restaurant opening onto a nursery as well as an outdoor tea garden. Here the weary traveller can stop and enjoy a delicious light meal in pleasant and relaxing surroundings. There is also a small shop one can browse before continuing ones journey.
